St. Martin’s Episcopal School is proud to announce that Alex Scheuermann ’26 has been named a Finalist in the 71st annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Alex’s advancement to the Finalist stage places him in an elite group of high school seniors—representing less than one percent of entrants nationwide.

The Path to National Merit Distinction

The journey to becoming a National Merit Finalist is a rigorous multi-step process that began with the PSAT/NMSQT. Out of more than 1.3 million students who entered the program, Alex was first recognized as one of 16,000 Semifinalists.

To achieve Finalist standing, Alex met several stringent academic requirements, including:

• Maintaining an outstanding academic record throughout his time at St. Martin’s.

• Earning SAT or ACT scores that confirmed his earlier qualifying performance.

• Demonstrating leadership and contributions to the school and community.

• Receiving a formal endorsement from St. Martin’s Episcopal School.

Unlocking National Scholarship Opportunities

By advancing to the Finalist level, Alex is now eligible to compete for one of 7,140 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million. These awards include:

• National Merit® $2,500 Scholarships: Awarded on a state-representational basis.

• Corporate-Sponsored Scholarships: Provided by approximately 150 corporations for students who meet specific criteria.

• College-Sponsored Scholarships: Renewable awards provided by roughly 150 selective colleges and universities for Finalists who choose to attend their institution.
