Local Author Monica Vaughn-Flam Visits the George Cottage Literacy Center

January 29th, 2026

St. Martin’s Episcopal School recently welcomed local author Monica Vaughn‑Flam to campus for a special visit with students in the George Cottage Twos and Threes program. The visit took place in the newly renovated George Cottage Literacy Center, a space intentionally designed to support early language development and a love of reading.

During her visit, Vaughn-Flam shared two of her children’s books, “The Wheels on the Floats” and “G-U-M-B-O,” engaging students through lively storytelling, familiar rhythms, and New Orleans–inspired themes. Students listened closely, asked thoughtful questions, and experienced the joy of stories told by the author herself.

Author visits like this are an important part of St. Martin’s early childhood program. By connecting young learners with storytellers, books, and hands-on literary experiences, the school builds a strong foundation for early literacy within a supportive learning environment. These moments help spark curiosity, strengthen listening and language skills, and foster a love of reading that continues to grow throughout a student’s academic journey at St. Martin’s.
