Global Early Childhood Educators Tour St. Martin's George Cottage

March 9th, 2026

St. Martin's Episcopal School recently served as a host site for the 17th NAREA Winter Conference, welcoming early childhood educators from around the globe to explore the George Cottage and our Lower School. This significant event brought together nearly 200 participants representing five different countries and 25 different states.

The conference highlighted the power of the Reggio Emilia approach, an educational philosophy that views children as capable, resilient, and full of potential. Our campus became a hub of professional inquiry as guests toured our classrooms to see this philosophy in action. Among the distinguished visitors were an Italian atelierista and pedagogista from Reggio Emilia, Italy, who joined our faculty and guests in a deep reflection on early childhood pedagogy.

A Global Exchange of Ideas

Hosting the NAREA Winter Conference allowed our educators to engage in a true spirit of collaboration. While our guests came to observe the unique environment of the George Cottage, the experience was a two-way street of inspiration. Colleagues gathered to share ideas and reflect on the vital work of nurturing young minds.

We love seeing our students explore their interests and see where those curiosities lead. By opening our doors to international experts and fellow educators, we reinforce a culture where learning is a shared journey. The exchange of perspectives helps us refine our own practices, ensuring that our students continue to benefit from an environment that honors their voices and their discoveries.

Excellence in Early Childhood Education

The George Cottage at St. Martin's is designed to be a third teacher, where the physical space itself provokes thought and encourages exploration. During the school tours, participants observed how our intentional environments support the development of young children.

The presence of the Reggio Emilia representatives provided a rare opportunity for our community to connect directly with the roots of the world-renowned approach. This collaboration emphasizes our commitment to providing an exceptional early childhood foundation in the New Orleans area.

By participating in such high-level professional gatherings, St. Martin's remains at the forefront of early childhood education. We are proud to be a space where educators from around the world can gather to celebrate the potential of children.
