Students Celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Week

March 17th, 2026

Recently, our students practiced living out the saying “It’s better to give than receive,” as part of StM’s Random Acts of Kindness Week. At St. Martin’s, our Episcopal tradition calls us to respect others, speak honestly, offer kindness, and serve the community in celebration and worship of God. From creating and delivering flower arrangements to faculty and staff to picking up trash to creating handwritten notes and drawings to reading stories to younger students, Saints in all grade levels served others in a variety of ways.

The youngest members of our community set a beautiful tone for the week. Our George Cottage Threes students spent time arranging vibrant floral bouquets and delivering them to administrative offices around campus. Nearby, our Lower Schoolers were equally busy. Pre-Kindergarten students took to the campus grounds to pick up trash, ensuring our shared spaces remain beautiful for everyone. In first grade, students honored Mtr. Bridget’s memory with paper-flower bouquets, while second graders prepared "kindness jars" filled with thoughtful messages for Lower School Head Dr. Rebecca Lovisa and Ms. Cynthia Hill.

The momentum continued through the Middle and Upper Schools, where students focused on words of encouragement and gratitude. Fifth graders created motivational message pencils to inspire their peers. In the eighth grade, students brightened their classmates' day by leaving uplifting magnet messages on lockers.

Our older students led by example, showing that leadership and service go hand in hand. Members of the ninth grade picked up campus litter and penned cards of gratitude for the faculty. Sophomores spent time writing anonymous compliment notes to both classmates and teachers. To round out the week, seniors expressed their thanks to the dining hall staff with handwritten cards and presented an orchid and a card to Director of College Counseling and Academic Dean Mrs. Tiffany DuSaules.

Whether through a handwritten note or a helping hand, our Saints truly lived out St. Martin’s motto of Faith, Scholarship, and Service during Random Acts of Kindness Week.
