Third Grade Designs Macy's Parade-Style Balloons in STeaM Class
November 24th, 2025
While New York City gears up for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, balloons were already soaring over Green Acres! Third Graders in Ms. Natalie Ott’s STeaM class took on a lofty challenge — designing and building their own parade-inspired balloons from scratch. From sketching 2-D plans to engineering 3-D designs (just like Tony Sarg, the creator of Macy’s original balloons!), our students discover just how much creativity, problem-solving, and perseverance it takes to bring these giants to life.
Designing and building balloons of this size and detail is no small feat — and this year’s creations did not disappoint. (Tom Turkey even made an appearance!) Great work, Third Grade! ❤️💙
(Special thanks to Morgan Markey ’28 for the handmade parade banner!)
