Second Graders Explore Louisiana in Year-Long Cross-Curricular Study
November 10th, 2025
Second graders recently presented their work in front of family and friends from a cross-curricular unit all about Louisiana. The beloved StM tradition of Louisiana Day tied all their hardwork together in a performance on the Solomon Theater stage. Blending music, physical education, art, science, literacy, and social studies, the unit spans several months and a variety of topics.
Students explored Louisiana’s history, geography, and culture as they researched landmarks in social studies, investigated native wildlife and coastal regions, and created their own Blue Dog-inspired artwork after learning about artist George Rodrigue. A recent field trip to Lafitte for a swamp tour brought their learning to life. They even got a visit from local “celebrity” Neuty the Neutria! Students will continue to study Louisiana throughout the school year, including a spring science unit focused on coastal erosion.
