StM to Host AI Summer Intensive
January 6th, 2025
St. Martin’s Episcopal School is offering an in-person, pre-college, project-based artificial intelligence program this summer through Inspirit AI, an AI education program developed and taught by Stanford and MIT graduates. Rising students for grades 8-12 will learn the fundamental concepts of AI and gain a deeper understanding of how AI is used to build ChatGPT and generative AI, fight the COVID-19 pandemic, power self-driving cars, and more. Students will learn to program AI using Python, discuss ethics and bias within AI, and complete a group project applying AI to a discipline like healthcare, astronomy, finance, and more.
Program Dates/Times
The program will run on St. Martin’s Episcopal School campus for 10 sessions of 3 hours each from June 2-13, 2025, from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Program Ages
This program is open to students in rising grades 8-12 attending any school in the New Orleans metro area. No prior computer science experience is required to participate. For St. Martin's students, successful completion of this program can satisfy the summer program requirements for students who are pursuing either the signature STeaM or Global Citizenship diploma certifications. St. Martin’s own AP Computer Science instructor Maureen Smith will facilitate the program led by graduate students from MIT and Stanford.
Artificial intelligence is the defining technology of our times: in our voice-activated devices, smartphone face recognition systems, autonomous vehicles, and now in generative AI like ChatGPT. The potential for all students with diverse interests to apply this technology for good is limitless.
Registration Information
Students interested in participating in this unique opportunity should complete this short interest form. The program is offered at a fee of $1,400 for 30 hours of hands-on learning with AI practitioners and graduate students from Stanford and MIT who will travel to St. Martin’s campus to teach this pre-college program.
