National Honor Society Inducts New Members
February 21st, 2025
The National Honor Society (NHS) inducted several students as the newest members of the prestigious academic organization on February 20, at its annual induction ceremony. The ceremony took place in the Dan and Frances White Chapel, where Will Adriance, Hannah Coe, Mary Alice Comer, Lily Congemi, Noah Dunn, Dublin Hoerner, Grayson Lambert, Kaliyah Larche, Donald Lawrence, Garri Lawson, Devyn McManus, Sophie Miller, Aidan Molaison, Corbin Nicoladis, Nia Norton, Kayman Rice, Alex Scheuermann, Hailey Silvey, Juliet Whitaker, and Beibei Zhang were formally welcomed into St. Martin’s Chapter of the NHS. The induction of the new members bringing the school’s chapter membership to 40 members.
At the ceremony, students listened to a powerful address from StM alumna Ali Lange ’14, who encouraged students to consider their challenges not as failure, but as opportunity. She acknowledged the irony of speaking about failure at a ceremony celebrating excellence, but showed the important parallels.
The National Honor Society, founded in 1921, is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.
Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in NHS activities. NHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.
St. Martin’s NHS members contribute to the school community in many ways. In particular, each member participates in a tutoring program designed to pair NHS members with students from the Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School who have requested academic support. NHS members continue to pursue their own individual projects in service to St. Martin's and the greater New Orleans community.
