Spring Athletes Recognized at Athletic Awards Ceremony
May 7th, 2024
Many high-achieving Saints were recognized for their academic and athletic accomplishments during the Spring Athletic Awards ceremony on May 7, in the Adkerson Gymnasium. Athletic Awards were presented to numerous athletes, who were recognized for their accomplishments on the field of play. In addition, seven Saints made commitments to continue their athletic careers in college.

AG Tony Porter Award: This award commemorates St. Martin’s affection for and admiration of Tony “Chief” Porter. This award is presented to male and female athletes of the track team who are spirited and unafraid to take risks and try new events for the improvement of the team. They possess the qualities of dedication, commitment, and hard work. This year’s winners are Madison Westacott and Frankie Cusimano.
Judy Ketchum Baehr Award: This award is given annually to the athletes who have distinguished themselves by lettering in 3 or more varsity sports during their senior year. This year’s recipients are:

Emerson Arensman - Kalamazoo College - Volleyball
Emerson has been a 3-4 sport athlete throughout most of her high school career. Some of her honors include All-District in Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball and All-Academic. She will be playing Volleyball at Kalamazoo College.
Manny Bejaran - Loyola University New Orleans - Track & Field
Manny has played multiple sports, but his real successes lie in Football and Track & Field. Manny achieved All-District, All-Academic, Allstate Sugar Bowl scholar athlete, and Javelin State Champ and Runner-up. He will be attending Loyola University for Track & Field.
Sofia DiVincenti - Loyola University New Orleans - Track & Field
Sofia has been a 3-4 sport athlete throughout most of her
St. Martin’s career. Her greatest achievements include All-District in Softball, Javelin State 2nd and 3rd place finishes, and the
E. Douglas Johnson Award. Sofia will be attending Loyola University for Track & Field.
Morgan Guepet - University of North Carolina Asheville - Golf
Morgan has been a 3 time LHSAA Individual State Champion. She will be attending the University of North Carolina Asheville to play golf.
David Helwig - Nunez Community College - Baseball
David has been a baseball standout since his Freshman year. He was named St. Martin’s MVP and received All-District honors. David will play baseball at Nunez Community College.
Carter Scheuermann - Loyola University New Orleans - Cross Country/Track
Carter is a 3 sport athlete in Cross Country, Soccer, and Track & Field. His honors include All-District in Soccer and All-Academic. He is attending Loyola University for Cross Country and Track.
Matthew Weaver - Millsaps College- Basketball
Matthew played Basketball and Baseball while at St. Martin’s. However, his greatest achievements are in basketball. He is the school’s leading scorer with 1865 points and received All-District and All-State honors. He helped his team become State Runner-up this year. Matthew will be playing basketball at Millsaps College.
