Five St. Martin’s Students who auditioned in September were selected for the Louisiana American Choral Directors Association All State Choir. Lower School students Ella B., Bella F., and Andrew G. and Middle School students Camila F. and George M. particpated in a conference that included reading sessions, and interest sessions with All State conductors.The conference concluded with a performance on Saturday, Nov. 5, at the First Baptist Church of New Orleans.
Students at the conference performed five pieces and received a standing ovation from the audience. “Hine Ma Tov” by Allan Naplan, “This Little Light of Mine” by Ken Berg, “Three Quotes by Mark Twain” by Andrea Ramsey, “If Wishes Had Wings” by Paul Caldwell and Sean Ivory, and “Oye” by Jim Papoulis were the selections. Paul Caldwell served as the conductor. Caldwell is currently the Artistic Director of both the Men’s Chorus and Women’s Chorus of Seattle. He has received the Chorus America/ ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programing.
The American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) is a nonprofit music-education organization founded in 1959 whose central purpose is to promote excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research, and teaching. St. Martin’s Director of Vocal Music, Dr. Louise LaBruyere is a member of the executive board of the Louisiana ACDA.
