Two Middle School Students Named to Honor Bands

Two Middle School Students Named to Honor Bands
Two middle school students were recently named to the Louisiana Music Educators Association (LMEA) District VI Honor Bands.

Sixth grader Luke A. was chosen as the second chair trumpet player for the Elementary Honor Band (grades 4-6). Eighth grader Clara C. was picked as the first chair horn player for the Junior High Band (grades 6-9). These two StM students will go on to rehearse and perform in their respective honor bands with guest conductors in January.

The District VI Honor Bands are sponsored by the LMEA District VI Band Directors' Association. Each fall, hundreds of student musicians from around the area audition for spots in the bands.

The audition requires that all students learn the same four scales and two etudes, which our students have practiced since the beginning of the school year. Each student played the required music in front of a judge who was hidden behind a curtain at the audition. After everyone played, the judges tabulated their scores and determined the top performances for each instrument.

The mission of the LMEA is to provide leadership, professional development, and support for its membership to ensure quality music education.
