Speech and Debate Team Members Earn Top 10 Finishes at Local Tournament
The Upper School Speech and Debate Team competed at the Mount Carmel speech and debate tournament November 9-10. Junior Andrew Gary placed second in Congressional debate and fourth in Senior Extemporaneous Speaking. In addition, Gary advanced to the quarterfinals in Lincoln-Douglas debate. Junior Brandon Stokes placed fifth in Senior Extemporaneous Speaking. Sophomore Renee Angerer placed sixth in Congressional debate.

Several other team members represented St. Martin’s at this tournament. Sophomores Samantha McClellan and Teddy Fox entered the Public Forum debate. Senior Alana Tessman delivered speeches in the categories of  Senior Impromptu Speaking and Senior Oral Interpretation. Sophomores Kaylee Caracci and Camila Figueroa, and junior Andreas Poulis, all participated in the Congressional debate.

Senior Ishmael Blackstone volunteered this time to serve as a judge for the middle school-level events. Former StM teacher and alum Jim Marsalis ’62 and StM parent Jennifer Gary also volunteered as judges for events. The team was accompanied by Alexandra Simon, director of speech and debate, and Fr. Jay Angerer, coach.
