Freshman Clara Conatser was recently selected for the Louisiana Music Educators Association (LMEA) All-State band. The group rehearsed 16 hours, culminating with an hour-long concert Monday, Nov. 20, which included "Fanfare and Flourishes" by James Curnow, a Cuban danzon ("Danzon # 2 by Marquez/Nickel), "Nothing Gold Can Stay, " (an adaptation of a Robert Frost poem), and "Sabre and Spurs," a spirited Souza march.
The LMEA honor All State band is open only to high school students. Honorees must go through two blind auditions, one at the district and one at the state level. Clara was one of four French horns chosen from New Orleans in the first round. She was selected as third chair in the state for the concert band in the second round, out of a field of 36 musicians. She was one of only a handful of freshmen at All-State. Clara had the opportunity to meet music students from all over the state and to work with a seasoned conductor from Georgia.
