St. Martin’s received a $50,000 E. E. Ford grant, with a $50,000 matching component, to put the Innovation + Design program on the road, working with schools and community groups across the greater New Orleans area. The grant supports the school’s Mobile Idea Lab – a classroom on wheels – equipped as a multipurpose design studio, prototyping lab, and classroom. The MIL will roll out to local schools and community groups this school year.
The MIL will offer both teachers and students throughout the community opportunities to learn and use the design thinking process. St. Martin's students and faculty will partner with schools, small businesses, and community organizations, creating project-based learning environments using the Mobile Idea Lab.
The mission of The Edward E. Ford Foundation is to strengthen and support independent secondary schools and to challenge and inspire them to leverage their unique talents, expertise and resources to advance teaching and learning throughout this country by supporting and disseminating best practice, by supporting efforts to develop and implement models of sustainability, and by encouraging collaboration with other institutions.
St. Martin’s is committed to being a center for best-practices in Innovation + Design – across the school’s curriculum and through school and community partnerships in the greater New Orleans area, transforming instructional practice in the region for optimal impact on relevant student-centered learning for the 21st century.
