Saints Honored at Athletic Awards Ceremony; Six Athletes Sign with College Sports Teams

St. Martin’s Episcopal School’s athletic coaches joined Upper School student-athletes, and their families, for the spring Athletics Awards Ceremony, which recognizes outstanding athleticism during the spring sports season. Those gathered listened to remarks from St. Martin’s Athletic Director Frank Gendusa before awards were presented.

During the ceremony, held in the Adkerson Gymnasium on May 11, six senior athletes signed their letters of intent for college sports. 

This season, St. Martin’s sent multiple teams to playoffs and many students were selected to LHSCA, the All-Academic team.

Most Improved: Ashley Gaspard and Kaitlyn Tillery

Softball:
Most Valuable: Sofia DiVincenti
Most Improved: Jayden Coleman

Tennis:
Girls Most Valuable: Kaitlyn Hall and Gabby Rubin
Boys Most Valuable: Patrick LaForge
Boys Most Improved: Cooper Odom


Track:
Girls Most Valuable: Kylar Coleman
Girls Most Improved: Meera Hijazi

Boys Most Valuable: Harlem Berry
Boys Most Improved: Carter Scheuermann

Also presented at the ceremony were the A.G. Tony Porter Awards and the Judy Ketchum Baehr Awards.

The Tony Porter Award commemorates St. Martin’s affection for and admiration of Tony “Chief” Porter. This award is presented to male and female athletes of the track team who are spirited and unafraid to take risks and try new events for the improvement of the team. They possess the qualities of dedication, commitment, and hard work. This year’s Tony Porter Award winners are Toi Robinson and Andrew Richardson.

The Judy Ketchum Baehr Award is given annually to the athletes who have distinguished themselves by lettering in three or more varsity sports during their senior year. This year’s recipients are:

After the presentation of awards, six senior athletes signed their letters of intent for college sports. They shared this moment with friends and family by their side. 

Jayden Coleman signed to play basketball for Belhaven University. She was the 2020 StM Basketball MVP and 2021 StM Basketball MVP. She was selected to the basketball All-District team and was the District MVP. She was also the 2022 StM Softball MIP. She received a Judy Ketchum Baehr Award.

Kylar Coleman signed to play basketball and track for Spring Hill College. She was the 2018 StM Basketball MVP, 2019 StM Outdoor Track MVP, 2020 StM Indoor Track MVP, 2020 StM Outdoor Track and Field MVP, 2022 StM Basketball MVP, and 2022 StM Outdoor Track and Field MVP. She was selected to the 2020-22 Basketball All-District teams and was the 2022 District Basketball MVP. During her StM basketball career, she scored 1097 points. She was All-Metro Indoor Track and All-State Honorable Mention, and 2022 Outdoor Track and Field State Champ for the 100m hurdles. She also received a Judy Ketchum Baehr Award. 
 
Johnny Morreale signed to play baseball for Millsaps College. He played StM baseball for the 2021 and 2022 seasons. He was the 2022 StM Baseball MVP.

Toi Robinson signed to play basketball for Belhaven University. She was the 2020 StM Track and Field MIP, 2021 Tony Porter Award winner, 2021 StM Volleyball MIP, 2022 All-Academic, 2022 StM Basketball MIP, and 2022 Tony Porter Award winner. She also received a Judy Ketchum Baehr Award.

Shawn Shank signed to play football for Millsaps College. He was selected to the 2020 and 2021 Football All-District teams, and was the 2022 StM Baseball MIP.

Skyler Shank signed to play football for Millsaps College. He was selected to the 2020 and 2021 Football All-District teams and was StM’s defensive MVP. He also received a Judy Ketchum Baehr Award.
