Virtual Gala Attendees Treated to Fun-Filled Interactive Events

When it comes to a celebration, where there’s a will, there’s a way. St. Martin’s first-ever virtual Gala proved that a pandemic was not going to stop a party, especially one for a good cause. The “Show Must Go On” Gala saw two nights of virtual events — for adults and families alike — along with a fabulous online silent auction. The result was interactive fun with the proceeds benefiting the school’s tuition assistance program, faculty “wish list” items, and campus enhancements.

Friday night’s Family Circus, led by ringmasters F.D. Barnum (Ford Dieth, Jr. ’89) and Ethel Bailey (Ethel Madden), was a fun-filled night with an interactive virtual event that featured bingo games, a live magician, and even a performance by acrobatic cats. Attendees enjoyed taking home an exciting goodie box that included a make-your-own-pizza kit, gourmet popcorn, an StM cookie decorating kit, and an StM door hanger kit.

On Saturday night, Robby Seacrest (Robby Stanley) hosted an Evening of Shining Stars. Attendees dressed up for a night of interactive fun featuring wine and cheese presentations led by St. James Cheese Company and Epoch Estates Winery. Guests were also treated to a live performance by New Orleans’ own Kermit Ruffins. Patrons enjoyed taking home a curated box that included wine by Epoch Estates Winery, assorted cheeses, a set of stemless acrylic wine glasses, and gourmet desserts.

Gala Chair Allison DeViney ’92 and the Gala committee made a special effort to help support local businesses that have been hit hard by the pandemic. DeViney and the committee reached out to StM parents and asked them to support local shops, restaurants, and businesses by purchasing gift cards that were then donated to the Gala silent auction.

“It has been a really difficult year for so many local businesses and entrepreneurs,” said DeViney. “It was really important for us as members of the StM community to do what we could to support so many of them... Our school’s motto is ‘Faith, Scholarship, and Service’ and it has been exciting to be able to support our school while living up to that StM promise.”

The entire event not only brought StM families and friends together in a manner that has been sorely missed this year, but also supported the school in a significant way.
