Speech and Debate Team Named Leading Chapter by the NSDA

The Upper School Speech and Debate Team was recently named a Leading Chapter by the National Speech and Debate Association. This is the second year that St Martin's has been recognized for a high number of degrees earned and last year's recognition of a student as an Academic All American.

Each year, the National Speech and Debate Association designates one school in each of its 110 districts as the Leading Chapter for the district. I proudly announce that St. Martin’s Episcopal is the 2020-21 Leading Chapter for the Louisiana District. The award is based on the number of student memberships and the degrees of achievement from each student. A school’s yearly total of new degrees is added to the previous cumulative total. The school with the high total is named the Leading Chapter. Upon receipt, the total is reset to 0, and the process begins again. It takes many years of commitment and support in speech and debate activities for a school to be given this honor, the highest honor the NSDA bestows upon a school.
