The planning and preparation for the 2020-21 year have been unlike any ever before. St. Martin’s Board of Trustees, administration, faculty, and staff have worked together to create a plan to safely return to campus and ensure a successful school year.
St. Martin’s is reaffirming its commitment to opening school on campus on August 12, while recognizing there is a concern among some families about returning to campus at this time. Head of School Merry Sorrells said, “We understand that our families may be facing a variety of challenges and we are committed to providing our full support. Therefore, following significant thought and preparation, I am pleased to inform you that StM families will have the option to pursue online learning.”
St. Martin’s is fully prepared to deliver its curriculum to all of its students. In addition to the on-campus program, a robust virtual format has been prepared for all PreK through 12th grade students. They will be able to access lessons from home during the school day, and the lessons will also be recorded for children to access at any time. Families will have the flexibility to choose the format that best suits their needs.
If schools are required by the city or state to close campus for a period of time, George Cottage will remain open, unless instructed otherwise. St. Martin’s is also pursuing the license needed to include PreK and Kindergarten in that scenario so that those students will be able to stay on campus as well. An announcement will be made as soon as the school receives approval from the state.
StM continues to work closely with Ochsner Health to ensure the school is going above and beyond to keep students, faculty, and staff healthy and safe. The Senior Leadership Team has been working diligently throughout the spring and summer, and academic plans are both comprehensive and stellar. The faculty will return to campus on August 3, for training in new health care procedures and for professional development.
The St. Martin’s community is excited about the safe return to campus and a successful school year.
