STM STUDENTS WIN 2020 CHURCHILL SOCIETY ESSAY CONTEST
StM Students Win 2020 Churchill Society Essay Contest
Three St. Martin’s students took home the top prizes in this year’s essay contest, sponsored by The Churchill Society of New Orleans. Junior Isabella Bartholomew finished first, while classmate Clara Conatser and sophomore Alexis Steckler took home second and third, respectively.
Open to all local high school students, the annual contest aims to encourage young people to learn more about Sir Winston Churchill, prime minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955.
This year’s topic encouraged students to explore how Churchill’s experiences prepared him to lead Britain in 1940 and why he was the right person for the job. Entries were judged on knowledge of Churchill, relevance to the topic, and good use of the English language. Each of the top three places earns prize money: first prize is $1,500; second prize is $500; third prize is $250.
