Cross Country Runs in Cajun Classic, Girls Varsity takes home 1st place
The cross country program participated in the Country Day Cajun Classic on Oct. 5 at City Park. It was a warm and humid morning, but the Saints gave a strong effort, with several members achieving new best times. The varsity girls placed first in their division. 
 
Junior Varsity (Grades 7 – 9): 2-mile race
Tommy Garvey, Kaitlyn Hall, August Schmedtje, and Samantha Thompson competed for StM in this race. Kaitlyn and Tommy both finished in the Top 10 and received t-shirt awards for their efforts. 
 
Girls Varsity: 3-mile race
The girls varsity team ran with a full complement for the first time this season and achieved a first-place team finish. Leading the way for the Saints was Isabella Bartholomew, who finished third overall. Joining her in the top ten was Rian McManus, who finished seventh overall. Both girls received t-shirt awards. Also representing StM in this race were Lauren Bone, Maria Cusimano, and Katie Williams. Kaylee Caracci and Adriana Paz competed in the junior varsity division and successfully completed their first three-mile race of the season.
 
Boys Varsity: 3-mile race
The boys cross country team represented itself well in a strong field. There were 24 teams and 181 participants in the race. The team finished 10th overall. Leading the way for St. Martin’s was Randy Dunkin, who covered the three-mile course in 19:06.66. Other members of the scoring five were Cort Anthony, Justin Hall, Daniel Thompson, and Blake Verdigets. Pryce Anthony also represented St. Martin’s in this race. Harris Huber and Elliot Schmedtje competed in the junior varsity division and successfully completed their first three-mile race of the season. 
 
The Saints return to action on Oct. 12 when they will travel to Baton Rouge for the Catholic High Invitational. Varsity girls run at 9:30 a.m. Varsity boys run at 10:00 a.m. JV girls and boys run at 10:30 a.m.
