Cross Country Season Has Strong Start

Cross Country Season Has Strong Start
The StM cross country program traveled to Baton Rouge to participate in the Bayou Boogie Invitational at Highland Park. It was a hot and humid Saturday for the runners. The Saints maintained a positive attitude and gave a very strong effort under less than ideal racing conditions.

Upper School athletes competed in the Open Division, where no team scores are tabulated and times are not recorded. Athletes for this race were allowed to choose the distance over which to compete. Randy Dunkin, James Garvey, and Katie Williams chose to run the 3-mile course. The remainder of the Upper School athletes ran the 2-mile course.

Middle School athletes ran the standard distance 2-mile course.

Despite being one runner short of a complete team due to injury, the girls did very well. Juliet Whitaker placed 4th, Bellen Davis placed 10th, and Kaitlyn Hall placed 12th. All three girls received t-shirt awards, with Juliet and Bellen also receiving medals for their excellent efforts.

The boys started off the year in strong fashion finishing 4th, missing 3rd place and a trophy by 3 points.
The scoring five for StM were: Jack Collins, Leland Crawford, Peyton Crosby, Jack Flanagan, and Tommy Garvey. Jack Flanagan placed 10th in the race and received both a medal and a t-shirt. Also representing StM in this race were: Tristen Bartholomew, Frankie Cusimano, and Angelo Fassbender. Many of the boys started off the season by achieving lifetime personal records for this distance.

The Saints cross country teams return to action Saturday, September 14 in the Episcopal Round Table Run.
