In August I wrote you to let you know of our continued commitment to enhancing the safety and security of our campus. I want to give you an update on the ongoing enhancement of our security measures:
We continue to test our response systems, including our emergency notification system. In the event of any emergency, we will use this voice/email/text notification system to reach you with information about emergency procedures, school closings, and other pertinent details. On Monday, January 21, we will conduct our second semester test of the system. Parents will receive messages on cell phones, on home phones, and via email. Please email Advancement Assistant Mary Brown at firstname.lastname@example.org to update your contact information if necessary.
We are continuing to work with Strategic Response Group (SRG), a security consultant firm. The group has been helping us improve our policies and procedures. SRG has hosted emergency preparation and situational awareness trainings for our faculty and staff, presented at faculty and SCO meetings, and continues to help us carefully prepare and coordinate practice emergency scenarios and drills. SRG will present to parents at the SCO Winter Meeting on Tuesday, January 15 at 5:30 p.m. in The Gibbs Family Center for Innovation + Design.
We have enhanced our safety drills and have developed plans to make them even more meaningful. Each safety drill becomes progressively more challenging and engaging from month to month. This step-by-step process helps ensure that we are learning and growing from each step. While it is important for drills to be engaging, we also make it clear to students, in age-appropriate ways, that these are practice drills. We want to ensure there is no confusion about whether or not it is a true emergency.
Below is more information about our drills and how we are enhancing them each month.
