Clara Conatser was selected to play in the Louisiana Music Educators Association (LMEA) District 6 Senior High School Honor Band on the basis of auditions in the fall. The concert, which took place Sunday, Jan. 20 at Tulane University’s Dixon Hall, was conducted by Dr. David Holsinger. The program featured pieces by Bartok, Barber, and Shostakovich, as well as one of Dr. Holsinger's own compositions. This was the sixth year that Conatser was selected for the District Honor Band.
Clara was also chosen to participate in the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) conference in Orlando in November. There were more than 500 students from 49 states, including five from Louisiana. Clara’s group, the Concert Band, was conducted by Dennis Glocke from Penn State University. The band rehearsed for three days with a final concert on Nov. 28.
Earlier in November, Clara took part in the LMEA All-State Honor Orchestra in Baton Rouge after completing the district and state audition process. She received the Academic All-State Award, which is granted from LMEA to qualifying music students in grades 10-12. This was her second year participating in All-State.
