Speech and Debate Team Takes Home High Honors in Dutchtown Griffin Classic
St. Martin’s Upper School Speech and Debate Team traveled to Dutchtown High School in Geismar to compete in two tournaments over the weekend of Jan. 18-19. Several Saints took home top honors in the Dutchtown Griffin Classic.

Junior Andrew Gary placed second in Advanced Lincoln-Douglas Debate. Sophomore Camila Figueroa was a finalist in Junior Impromptu Speaking and a semi-finalist in Original Oratory. Sophomore Renee Angerer competed in Junior Impromptu Speaking and Congressional Debate. Sophomore Grace Fleshman competed in Declamation. Junior Brandon Stokes and senior Alana Tessman competed in Senior Extemporaneous Speaking.

Additionally, sophomore Renee Angerer and junior Andreas Poulis competed in the National Speech & Debate (NSDA) Congressional Debate national qualifier.

The team is coached by Alexandra Simon, director of speech and debate, and Fr. Jay Angerer.
