Dear Parents,
In a press conference yesterday, Gov. John Bel Edwards said the state is “ramping up” its testing capacity with drive-thru screening locations and expects that will cause the number of known cases to increase substantially as more results are processed. Local health experts are stressing to residents to treat themselves as if they are COVID-19 positive but asymptomatic, mainly by practicing social distancing. Officials are certain that the New Orleans metro area has been experiencing community spread of the virus for weeks.
Based on these new recommendations and information, St. Martin’s will no longer be notifying families of specific cases of presumed or confirmed COVID-19 cases. St. Martin’s will continue to monitor our community’s health and notify you of any patterns of concern. Please feel free to reach out to our Student Support Services, your Division Head, or StM administrators if you have any questions. We know this is a time of heightened anxiety and we don’t want to add to that anxiety unnecessarily.
We continue to encourage families follow the current New Orleans Department of Health guidelines:
  • If you have symptoms including a fever, cough, or shortness of breath, call your primary care provider. Do not go to the doctor without calling first.
  • If you do not have a primary care provider, call the Louisiana Department of Health hotline at 1-855-523-2652.
  • If you are severely ill and you think you need hospitalization, call 9-1-1 or go to an emergency room.
If you are feeling overwhelmed with stress, fear and anxiety about the uncertainty surrounding this public health emergency, there is a special statewide Keeping Calm through COVID Hotline you can call. This connects you to trained, compassionate counselors who can offer support and who can direct you to counseling services. Call 1-866-310-7977 anytime, 24/7 to reach a confidential, trained counselor.
If you have any specific questions or concerns, or would simply like to talk, we are also available. Please feel free to reach out to our Student Support Services, your Division Head, or StM administrators if you need support.
Together We Are Saints!
