In 2013 St. Martin's Episcopal school opened The Idea Lab. As the first of its kind in the region, The Idea Lab for was simultaneously a studio, a classroom, and a community workspace.
It was a place where people and ideas are brought together in the spirit of connecting, learning, creating, and solving real world problems. Staff members worked alongside faculty and students to develop projects that built on the concepts and content learned in the classroom. 3-D printers, modeling software, and video and audio equipment enabled and supported rapid prototyping of ideas, field research and multimedia presentations.
Over time the program outgrew the space. In January 2017 St. Martin’s celebrated the grand opening of The Gibbs Family Center for Innovation + Design – a 4,900 square foot facility that now serves as the centerpiece of the school’s Innovation + Design
program.Read more about the grand opening
