St. Martin's Episcopal School is committed to enrolling students from diverse economic, ethnic, racial and social backgrounds.  The purpose of our financial aid program is to build a bridge between the expenses of St. Martin's and a family's ability to contribute.  St. Martin's awards financial aid to make the school accessible to as many enrolled and admitted students as possible, regardless of their families' ability to pay full tuition.  Financial aid awards are based on demonstrated financial need.  We provide assistance to over 25% of our students.

It is difficult to predict quickly whether a family qualifies for financial aid since individual circumstances vary so widely, and the overall demand may vary year to year.  However, the following information, along with the frequently asked questions section below, may help you decide whether or not to apply for financial aid.

What is financial aid?

Financial aid is a need-based award made to qualifying families to offset the cost of a St. Martin's education.

Who can apply for financial aid?

Families who have students entering Pre-Kindergarten through twelfth grade are eligible to apply.

How do I know if I should apply for financial aid?

Parents often ask, "What is the cut-off point for my income?"  There isn't one.  Every family has varying circumstances, such as family size, number of children in tuition charging schools, assets, and debts that the estimate parental contribution for education.  Therefore, families are encouraged to apply for aid if they anticipate that the cost of attending St. Martin's Episcopal School is greater than their ability to contribute.

How is financial need determined?

Like many other independent schools, St. Martin's uses the needs analysis system of a third party vendor to assess ability to pay.  Parents complete an application which evaluates a families income, assets, debts, family size, and number of children in tuition-charging schools, with allowances for required taxes and basic necessities.  College tuition for older siblings may not be considered in the calculation.  St. Martin's Financial Aid Committee uses the external evaluation and tax information from the family, also taking into consideration any unusual or extenuating circumstances.

How can I apply for financial aid?

Financial aid packets with complete instructions are mailed in November to current families receiving aid and applicants who have requested a financial aid application packet.  You may also request a packet from Mary White at 504-736-9918 or Mary.White@stmsaints.com.

Does applying for financial aid affect my child's chances of being admitted or enrolled?

No.  St. Martin's Episcopal admits and re-enrolls students without regard to a family's financial need.  The financial aid process is separate from the admission and re-enrollment process.  Prospective families are encouraged, however, to apply for admission and financial aid at the same time to ensure that the Financial Aid Committee is able to make decisions in a timely manner.

What kind of financial aid awards can I expect in following years?

Financial aid awards are subject to review annually and families must file a new application each year.

What about divorced or separated parents?

In the case of separation or divorce, the assets of all parents are taken into consideration.  Both custodial and non-custodial parents must complete the financial aid application and submit the necessary documentation.  In cases where information will not be forthcoming from both parents, communication with the Director of Financial Aid should be made in advance of the application deadlines.

Only one parent works outside the home.  Must both parents be employed to receive financial aid from St. Martin's?

No, however, when a mother or father does not work and there are no pre-school children at home, or the non-working spouse is not attending school, income will be imputed for the non-working spouse.  An exception can be made if the parents are caring for a disabled or critically ill individual who resides in their home.  Consideration may also be given for the parent who is home-schooling other children in their family.

Who will see my financial information?

All information received by St. Martin's Episcopal School Financial Aid Office is held in the strictest of confidence and will only be reviewed by members of the Financial Aid Committee.

Does St. Martin's award academic, merit or athletic scholarships?

St. Martin's does not award academic or athletic scholarships.  St. Martin's awards up to four Bishop Brown Scholarships each year to students who meet the criteria.  This scholarship is need-based.  Please click here for more information on the Bishop Brown Scholarship.(link to info)

If we do not qualify for financial aid this year, can we apply again in future

years?
