My experience at St. Martin's directly influenced my choice of a profession. Intellectual curiosity, close friendships with peers, and relationships with faculty that were both nurturing and challenging marked my years at STM. During Middle School, I decided that I wanted to teach social studies to middle school students in an independent school. I rarely wavered in that desire, and during the first week of my freshman year at Duke, I found the Program in Education office and mapped out the plan to reach my goal. In the years since then, I've taught every grade from fifth to twelfth, except for tenth, and worked in admission, communications, financial aid, and academic administration -- all at independent schools. My years at St. Martin's inform my vision of what an excellent independent school is, and I draw on my experience regularly as I work with my colleagues to make my current school the best it can be.
