The St. Martin's Documentary Film Studies Program is intended to
challenge students to bring a concept to life, from idea to screen,
through the use of organizational writing skills, cooperative team work
in pre-production, shooting, and post-production, with the core
principals of St. Martin's, being Faith, Scholarship, and Service in
mind as guiding factors. Production has begun and continues on the
first student made documentary film in the new "Voices of Saints"
documentary series, which documents and celebrates the personalities,
accomplishments, and contributions of figures important to the St.
Martin's history, development, and future. Student film makers will
also be in control of their own projects which will not only
demonstrate the power of documentary film communication, but be of
service to the STM Community and community at large.
During the first part of this year, working professionals from the film
and media industries were brought in as guest speakers and hosts of
mini-seminars on film and media production. Those types of experiences
will be expanded with more extensive screen writing workshops and input
from working professionals in the film industry, including many
successful women in the media, who will demonstrate first-hand the
rapid growth and influence of women in what was once a male-dominated
profession or career path. Field trips are also in the works to ABC-26
television studios, where students will tour the facilities, but also
participate in the actual taping of a real television program. A visit
to the new interactive documentary, "Beyond All Boundaries" at the WWII
Museum-Solomon Victory Theatre is also being planned, along with other
exciting media related tours and events.
The showcasing of student films is also planned for St. Martin's first
ever film and arts festival to be planned for later this Spring.
