Message from the Headmaster

Dear St. Martin’s Parent,

I am pleased to announce that re-enrollment for the 2009-10 school year is now open. St. Martin’s has “gone green” this year and re-enrollment materials have been posted on our website rather than printed and mailed. To complete your re-enrollment materials, please visit www.stmsaints.com to view and download the contract and all other re-enrollment forms. I ask that you complete and return your contract and all re-enrollment materials to Susan Pansano in the Admission Office by January 30, 2009.

We are in the midst of another very exciting year at St. Martin’s. We have launched The Coatney Leadership Center and Project Adventure, both of which are unique to St. Martin’s and which will produce students of great character and ability who will serve as leaders of our community in the future. Our academic programs are stronger than ever, our arts and music programs have expanded, and our athletic programs have shown great improvement. In sum, St. Martin’s is a thriving and unique independent school.

I greatly appreciate your taking the time to return your re-enrollment contract and complete the on-line re-enrollment by January 30, which will not only assure that your child has a place in his or her class next year, but will also help us to accurately plan for next year in order to maximize the educational and extra-curricular experiences we offer.

Thank you for being a part of St. Martin’s, for all you do for the school, and mostly, for choosing St. Martin’s. My promise to you is that I will always do my best for your child. I look forward to having your family with us again in the fall of 2009.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jeffrey Pratt Beedy

Headmaster

Bus Transportation

The average StM parent spends more than 180 hours a year driving his or her student to and from school. That adds up to four and a half weeks of drive time. Time is valuable so utilize our convenient bus service. StM offers both morning and afternoon bus service for grades K-12. A student can choose to ride for the entire school year or ride on a semester, monthly, weekly or daily basis. Bus service is offered to many areas in Greater New Orleans including Metairie, Kenner and Ormond. Currently there is one West Bank route with a pick up point near the General DeGaulle Library. Each year routes are determined based on overall rider need and may be added or discontinued based on participation levels. Route decisions are based on students registered as of July 15. Door-to-door service is offered on the East Bank when possible. In some locations or circumstances it is not possible to offer door-to-door service. Safety: The school employs a Director of Transportation to coordinate bus activities. All St. Martin’s buses are inspected regularly to meet transportation standards. Our drivers are carefully selected, properly trained, and licensed. Each bus is equipped with two-way communication (Nextel Direct Connect) for immediate contact with the Transportation Director. Transportation charges, except for per ride, are billed for the school session. A family rate is offered for families with more than one child picked up at the same location and who ride both to and from school. No discount or credit is given for nonparticipation due to athletics or other school activities. Per-ride transportation charges are billed on a monthly basis.

Get on the bus! Sign up for transportation services on the 2009-2010 auxiliary services section of the reenrollment web form, or contract the Director of Transportation, Angela Day, at 736-9945.

After-School Care

StM offers after-school care for students in grades PK-8th grades. The program, staffed by St. Martin's teachers, provides care for Lower and Middle School students from 3:30-6 p.m. each school day. The program for students in grades PK-5th grade takes place in the Lower School and includes supervised homework sessions, enrichment art projects and sports activites. An afternoon snack and drink are provided. Tutoring sessions are available.

The program for students in 6th-8th grades takes place in the Middle School. Students staying after school, after a brief rest break and play period, are provided a quiet place to complete homework and work on academic projects. Students may consult with teachers for help and have access to the Martin Family Library in order to conduct necessary research. A snack and drink are provided. Students who participate in extracurricular activities (i.e. athletic competitions, plays, music lessons, tutoring sessions, etc.) can attend after-school care after the activity.

Drop in service is also available.
Questions? Call Warren Lind, Director of Enrichments, at 736-9966.

Food Service

StM continues too offer high quality, nutritious meal plans in our Saints Hall facility. Two different daily hot entrees are offered with accompanying vegetables and starches. A student may choose one entree/starch/vegetable combination with a drink and dessert for the daily meal ticket price. Other daily entree options include sandwiches, soups, salads, and baked potatoes. Additional items sold a la carte include chips, fresh fruit, ice cream and daily specials.

Students in PK-1st grade participate in the meal plan on a yearly basis or bring lunch and drink from home. Students in grades 2-12 may purchase a meal plan by year, pay cash on a daily basis, or bring lunch from home.

Breakfast and snacks are available to the Upper School students at mid-morning on a cash basis. Break Plan participants have a choice of three items plus a beverage.

Questions? Call Joseph LeCoq, Director of Food Service, at 736-9958.
