St. Martin's Episcopal School

Bishop Brown Scholarship

 

 

Purpose:  To advance the education of students through need-based partial scholarships to attend St. Martin's Episcopal School.

 

Eligibility: 

 

  1. 8th grade students currently enrolled in the following ISAS Episcopal schools:

Trinity Episcopal School

St. George's Episcopal School

St. Andrew's Episcopal School

St. Paul's Episcopal School

Christ Episcopal School

 

            OR

 

2.  Episcopalian students residing in the diocese of Louisiana applying for 8th or 9th          grade.

 

Guidelines:

 

  1. The Bishop Brown Scholarship is to be used solely for the education of students who are entering St. Martin's Episcopal School in eighth or ninth grade who are Episcopalian or currently enrolled in an Episcopal school.
  2.  The Bishop Brown Scholarship will be awarded to provide need-based half-tuition scholarships to students who are Episcopalian or currently enrolled in an Episcopal school.
  3. The Report of Family Contribution (School Report) from School and Student Service for Financial Aid and a copy of your 2010 tax return are required for consideration of a Bishop Brown Scholarship.
  4. Complete application for admission to St. Martin's Episcopal School.
  5. Three half-tuition scholarships will be awarded to individual students.  Funds will be distributed to St. Martin's Episcopal School on behalf of the student.
  6. A student who is awarded a scholarship is eligible for awards thru 12th grade, provided that the student continues to exemplify the criteria for the Bishop Brown Scholarship-Faith, Scholarship and Service.
  7. Applications are due to Bishop Brown Scholarship by January 15, 2012.

  The Parent's Financial Statement (PFS) must be completed and sent to:

                                    School and Student service for Financial Aid

                                    P.O. Box 6657, Princeton, NJ 08541-6657

 

The Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) is a financial aid application that is processed by the School and Student Service for Financial Aid, (SSS).  Using the information provided in a family's PFS, this organization generates an analysis of the family's finances and determines a suggested family contribution by that family towards educational expenses.  The financial analysis, which is called the Report of Family Contribution, is sent to St. Martin's.

 

The SSS code number for St. Martin's School is 6746.  (see question 7A of the PFS application)  The PFS application may also be completed online at www.nais.org/financialaid/sss.

 

  Copy of parent's TAX RETURN as filed with the Internal Revenue Service (form 1040/1040a with w-2) and all schedules.

 

  STUDENT ESSAY.  All applications for grades 8-9 must include an essay written by the student.  Topic:  How do you personally demonstrate and/or embody the Bishop Brown Scholarship criteria of Faith, Scholarship and Service?

 

Letter of recommendation from current school's Principle or Head Master.

    This will be obtained by the Bishop Brown Scholarship committee.

Letter of recommendation from Pastor or Priest of student's congregation.

    This will be obtained by the Bishop Brown Scholarship committee.        

 

Deadline

Bishop Brown Scholarship applications must be received by January 15, 2012.  The committee will notify family applicants by mail in late February.

Selection Criteria

 

Faith

Demonstration of candidate's active participation in the religious life of current school or evidence of candidate's active membership in a faith community/congregation.

 

Scholarship

Consistent academic achievement in the top echelon of his/her peers according to standards of current school.

      

    Service

            Active contributions to the life of his/her current school.
