As a faith-based school, we believe that we are called to serve others. Service is an important part of our motto and philosophy here at St. Martin’s.

Service learning begins in the Lower School. Students learn the value of giving back to the community. Every student, from prekindergartens to the fifth graders, is involved in a community service project. The Lower School collects canned food, coats and blankets, and holds a sock drive every year. The children also enjoy making valentines for the patients at Children's Hospital.

One of the major Middle School service projects is the Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure. The entire Middle School participates in this project. Not only does St. Martin’s sponsor and run the

Kid’s Tent, but sixth graders also make pink Breast Cancer Awareness ribbons to hand out at the event. Several students and faculty members run or walk the course with parents and friends. The entire Middle School is also involved with the local Second Harvest food bank. Each class visits the food bank at least once a year to bring donations and learn about the organization.

The Upper School’s Life Skills program is unique to this division. The service project component is a significant feature of the Life Skills curriculum which encourages students to gain awareness of the pluralistic nature of society. Students are required to spend 50 hours in direct community service at hospitals, nursing homes, schools or other community agencies. Examples of service related projects for Life Skills include visiting elder care homes such as Woldenberg Park, Colonial Oaks Residential Elder Care, Lambeth House, and St. Francis Villa, where students not only visit the residents, but also help with meal preparation and service. They work with mentally handicapped students at Magnolia School and St. Michael’s Special School. Students visit and play with the patients at Children’s Hospital and volunteer at Ozanam Inn.

In addition to each division’s various projects, the entire school does a service project each year in connection with St. Martin’s Day. St. Martin's is building community minded leaders who understand the importance of giving back. This all school approach to service gives our students a unique opportunity to help others while building their own character and leadership skills.
