Scholarship, the pursuit of academic research, is not only part of St. Martin’s motto, it is evident through the curriculum the school offers, the performance of our students, and the dedication of our faculty. From their first year at St. Martin’s to the day they graduate, students have the opportunity and the privilege to partake in a curriculum that truly reflects the school's "whole person"philosophy. Fifty-two percent of our 92-member faculty hold advanced degrees. With a student-faculty ratio of 10-to-1, St. Martin’s is able to ensure that students receive the attention they need and deserve for superior academic pursuits.

On top of its many honors programs, St. Martin’s offers a wide array of Advanced Placement classes that include arts, humanities, math, and science courses. One-third of our seniors earn college credit through advanced placement courses and exams before their first collegiate semester even begins. Academically qualified upper school students also have the option to take concurrent classes with Tulane, UNO and the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. It’s no wonder that, in the past five years, the National Merit Scholar Corporation recognized, on average, 14 percent of the senior class. In 2006, our 63-person graduating class attended 38 different colleges, including Duke, Brown, Tulane, Auburn, Rice and Washington and Lee.

In the past five years, our students have been recognized by such accredited organizations as the Presidential Scholars Program and the National Scholastic Press Association. They have placed on the local and statewide level at the Tom Bell Silver Scribe Competition, the Louisiana State Literary Rally, the Emma Wilson Emery High School Poetry Contest, the Jefferson Reading Council’s Young Authors’ Contest, the Louisiana Collegiate Press Association Annual Conference, and the River Parish Chemical Industry Competition, among others. St. Martin's has gone even farther to offer our students the best in first-rate education. At the beginning of the 2006-2007 school year, we implemented the Middle School laptop program, a move that extended to Upper School in the 2007-2008 school year. In conjunction with SmartBoards installed in classrooms, St. Martin's has integrated cutting-edge technology into the curriculum in a way that enhances learning to the fullest extent.

Opportunities abound...

“As a student, I was able to dive into a wide range of interests, ranging from sports to student council to speech and debate. Teachers encourage students to explore the many possibilities available, and the relatively small size of the student body affords students many more opportunities to do so.”
Dominic Hood, Class of 2001
