St. Martin's Episcopal School is an intellectually rigorous academic environment. We seek bright and motivated students who intend to be successful in school and in life, and who are committed to our unique school philosophy. We acknowledge and organize around the concept that people enjoy multiple intelligences and learn differently from one another, creating an exciting atmosphere for learning. Our teaching approach is student-centered, dialogue-driven, and critical thinking-oriented, promoting a truly robust classroom where students are given the freedom to flourish. Data-driven research informs our approach to the teaching-learning experience so that we remain effective and accountable to the students and parents who select our school. Over 50% of our 68-member faculty holds advanced degrees. With a student-faculty ratio of 10-to-1, St. Martin's is able to ensure that students receive the attention they need and deserve for superior academic pursuits. In addition to 18 honors classes across the curriculum, St. Martin's also offers 13 Advanced Placement courses. Approximately one-half of juniors and seniors take these courses and the AP exams. The majority of those students earn scores of 3 or higher, which may qualify them for college credit before their first collegiate semester begins. In fact, the College Board recognized more than 20% of the St. Martin's Class of 2010 as AP Scholars, AP Scholars with Honors, AP Scholars with Distinction, or AP National Scholars. (AP Scholars are those students who earned a score of 3 or higher on at least 3 AP exams.) It's no wonder that, in the past 4 years, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation recognized, on average, 14 percent of the senior class. In 2010, our class of 60 seniors attended 39 different colleges across the United States and beyond, including Stanford, Harvard, Dartmouth, Cornell, Middlebury, Georgetown, Washington & Lee, Emory, Washington University in St. Louis, University of Michigan, UCLA, and many other highly competitive schools. Two seniors in the 44-member Class of 2011 have earned notable achievements this year. Collin Stedman scored a perfect 36 on the ACT. The Jefferson Scholars Foundation named Chloe George one of approximately 100 national finalists in the prestigious Jefferson Scholars competition associated with the University of Virginia. Academically qualified students also have the option to take concurrent classes at local colleges and New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts. Two seniors from the Class of 2011 are enrolled in Tulane courses and four Upper School students are enrolled at NOCCA.
