TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS FOR MIDDLE AND UPPER SCHOOL STUDENTS: All students in Middle School are required to have a school identified tablet loaded with specific software, and a 4 year accidental-damage warranty that have been purchased from our vendor CDWG.  Because of the way technology is being utilized in Upper School it is not mandatory for a student to have a tablet.  They may opt for either the tablet or the newest option the Toshiba mini computer.  All purchased for students in grades 6th - 12th must be made from the CWG link that can be found by clicking on Tablet Ordering Updates -below.

Student Performance Profile

At St. Martin’s Episcopal School technology is but another tool that our talented teachers utilize to engage, instruct, stimulate, and challenge the minds of our students.

All Lower School classrooms have desktop computers and several have interactive boards and mounted projectors.  Capitalizing on the fact that students spend their recreational time playing with handheld game devices, PALM Pilots were introduced to students in grades 3- 5.  Now, with the introduction of NEO2s, our third and fourth grade students will learn keyboarding and word processing skills in their classrooms, aiding in the integration of technology into their daily lives.  Our fifth grade students will begin the year using Palm Pilot for activities in spelling, reading, creative writing, math and social studies.  The portability of this technology is perfect for our older Lower School students.   Tablet technology, added to the mix in the fifth grade classrooms, compliments the technology utilized in the Middle and Upper School.  A computer lab, located in the Lower School, is stocked with HP desktops, an interactive board, mounted projector, and color laser printer.  This resource is utilized on a weekly basis by students in grades PK -Fifth.
Middle School and Upper School students have classrooms boasting interactive boards, mounted projectors, and speakers.  This compliments the tablet technology that each student possesses. All students in Middle School purchase a school identified tablet when they enter the division. All students in Upper school are required to have a school identified tablet.  Some Upper School students use the machine purchased when they were in Middle School and others purchase the latest school identified tablet.  The Technology fee paid by each student in Middle and Upper school goes towards a generous loaner program and on-site help for the students.   Yearly the Technology staff along with a group of teachers look at the latest offerings on the market and evaluate them according to the needs of the school. In mid- April the units are listed on the school website with all the details concerning the purchasing procedures.

The 1 – to – 1 Technology Initiative in grades 9 – 12 is entering its third year.  St. Martin’s decision to go with tablet technology stems from our commitment to help students identify their particular learning style and then to equip them with strategies and tools to make their learning experience positive and rewarding.  Students may choose to use the stylus in a handwritten format which is then digitized into various software programs, the built-in recorder, or for those that key information quickly, an attached keyboard.  In conclusion, tablet technology addresses the learning styles of all of our students, and is the superior tool for integration technology and curriculum in the classroom.

Like our teachers, our students are equipped with technology that aids them in their learning process.  In the past, a student’s world consisted of their classroom.  However, with the advent of the Internet and wireless technology, the world is now the student’s classroom.  St. Martin’s is a totally wireless environment that employs a state of the art Internet filtering system that is continually monitored and updated.
