A Message from the Chairman of the Board of Trustees

Welcome to St. Martin's Episcopal School. I have the privilege of serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, which is the governing body for our school. As with all independent schools, the Board of Trustees is an independent, self-perpetuating board. The Board of Trustees is comprised of fifteen men and women who represent the wide spectrum of the St. Martin's community, including alumni, parents of alumni, and current parents. In addition, the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana, the Right Reverend Charles E. Jenkins, III, serves ex officio on the Board of Trustees.

The Board of Trustees has a number of specific governance obligations, first and foremost of which is the employment of our Headmaster. In addition, the Board of Trustees is responsible for developing the school's long range and strategic planning, ensuring the school's financial stability, establishing governing policies for the school, and annual budgeting. Our Mission is to ensure our administration and faculty have the resources necessary to excel in delivering the very best college preparatory education in greater New Orleans, as well as ensuring the viability of an Episcopal education both for the present and future generations of students.

In keeping with our Episcopal heritage and Mission, Trustees are nominated to and approved by the Diocesan Convention and serve staggered, three year terms. Much of the Board's work is accomplished through its standing committees, which include Faith and Service, Advancement, Athletics, Business Affairs, and Admissions.

We are thrilled to now be working hand in hand with our new Headmaster, Dr. Jeffrey Pratt Beedy, to advance the Mission of St. Martin's. We continue to build on the strengths of our academic and athletic programs, as well as the overall institutional advancement of the school. We also remain focused on keeping our incredible eighteen acre campus, the largest in the New Orleans region, an example of institutional excellence. I am very proud of my association with St. Martin's and the work of our Board of Trustees. Few members of our community realize the commitment of time and energy our loyal Trustees give to our school. This is a dedicated group who truly put St. Martin's first in every way.

Sincerely,
Alan G. Brackett
