St. Martin's Episcopal School Mission Statement

Welcome to  St. Martin’s Episcopal School. St. Martin’s is a vibrant learning community with a rich history, engaging and bright students, topnotch faculty, nationally recognized academic, artistic, and athletic programs, and a state of the art campus second to none in the greater New Orleans area.

The people of St. Martin’s provide the foundation for what makes St. Martin’s excel. Our students are intellectually curious, motivated, and have an authentic desire to serve others. Our faculty members are experienced and caring. They understand that all children learn differently and that it is their responsibility to create learning experiences that tap into each child’s unique interest and diverse curiosities.

The minute you step onto the St. Martin’s campus you will experience for yourself the level of commitment the St. Martin’s community places on education. Our 18-acre campus, by far the largest in the greater New Orleans area, reflects our values and a deep commitment to overall excellence.

What makes St. Martin’s unique is the way our students and faculty members live their lives on a daily basis. The magic of St. Martin’s can be seen in the classroom, on the stage, or on the streets of New Orleans as students and faculty work alongside one another rebuilding the hopes and homes of our city’s residents. Our students truly reflect our values of Faith, Scholarship, and Service. We invite you to come, visit, and see for yourself what a positive difference a St. Martin’s education can make in the life of your child. My experience at St. Martin's directly influenced my choice of a profession. Intellectual curiosity, close friendships with peers, and relationships with faculty that were both nurturing and challenging marked my years at STM. During Middle School, I decided that I wanted to teach social studies to middle school students in an independent school. I rarely wavered in that desire, and during the first week of my freshman year at Duke, I found the Program in Education office and mapped out the plan to reach my goal. In the years since then, I've taught every grade from fifth to twelfth, except for tenth, and worked in admission, communications, financial aid, and academic administration -- all at independent schools. My years at St. Martin's inform my vision of what an excellent independent school is, and I draw on my experience regularly as I work with my colleagues to make my current school the best it can be. -Shelby Snyder Hammer ’89
