PARENTS COUNCIL

At the end of the past school year, the St. Martin's Board of Trustees approved the creation of a Parents Advisory Council to help better facilitate communication between parents, school administration and the Board of Trustees. Over the summer, parent volunteers representing all divisions and auxiliary groups worked with several Board members to further identify the role of the council, craft by-laws and develop a plan for representation on the council.

In the coming weeks, we hope to publish the finalized by-laws on the St. Martin's website. Until then, I wanted to summarize several key points. The council will consist of one parent representative from each grade (Cottage-12) and who will serve for a one year term. Any parent interested in serving on the council may submit their name. Should more than one person be interested in representing a grade, a name will be drawn randomly from those interested. Council meetings will be a minimum of four times a year and may meet more often as required.

Members of the initial council will be selected by September 15th of the school year. In order to assist the newly formed council, the group of volunteers which worked to craft the by-laws and identify the role of the council will remain on the council until the first election of officers in December.

The creation of the Parents Council is an excellent opportunity for all concerned to identify opportunities, challenges, communicate with one another and to help move St. Martin's forward for the betterment of our children's education and well-being. If you are interested in serving on the council, please submit your name (and child's grade you wish to represent) to Parents.Council@stmsaints.com no later than September 1, 2010. A member of the formation group will contact you to confirm your interest and answer any questions. Should you have any comments you wish the council to be aware of, please use the same email address.

Sincerely,

Parker Waters
Parents Council President
(Until December-2010)
